APP introduces biodegradable and compostable packaging solution

Pulp, paper, and forestry company APP Group has introduced Foopak Bio Natura, a biodegradable and compostable packaging range for the Singapore market.

The company noted that the collection comprises environmentally friendly options such as food containers and paper straws.

These alternatives are designed to cut down on plastic use while preserving functionality.

With the launch of Foopak Bio Natura, the company reinforces its dedication to innovation and sustainable practices. The development reflects the growing global emphasis on eco-conscious solutions in packaging.

Singapore, one of the highest per capita plastic waste producers in the Asia-Pacific region, generates approximately 87kg of plastic waste per individual each year, according to the company’s press release.

To tackle this issue, the country has enacted initiatives such as the Green Plan 2030 and the Mandatory Packaging Reporting Act (2019). These policies aim to encourage reduced waste and foster greater corporate accountability.

Earlier this month 2024, a YouGov survey revealed significant public backing for a ban on single-use plastics.

APP Foopak SEA regional sales head Ricca Windysari said: “The Singaporean government’s push toward a circular economy aligns with our mission to provide sustainable solutions.

“Foopak Bio Natura empowers businesses to support the Green Plan 2030 by reducing plastic waste and adopting eco-friendly packaging.”

Last month, APP Group supported US policies that promote environmental sustainability.

The company, exporting to 150-plus countries, recognised the benefits of recent US legislation.

These measures have notably reduced the use of single-use plastic bags across certain states.
